This project consisted of the structural design and detailing for an extension to replace an existing extension, internal alterations to the original Manor House, demolition of a modern link building, and new ancillary building.
The property is a Grade II listed 17th Century Manor House on a Scheduled Ancient Monument in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. This provided many challenges in the design and build process.
The extension comprised a timber superstructure with oak glulam frames supporting a thin roof that cantilevered over the glulam’s and glazed façade. The timber frame was designed inhouse with Engineer I-Joists stud external walls clad with natural stone masonry and softwood loadbearing internal partitions. The glazed link to the Manor House was formed with a sleek steel frame. All this was constructed on a reinforced concrete raft slab foundation.
